Mental Health Literacy
Developed by Frameworks for Health at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, the Mental Health Literacy course builds participants’ ability to access, understand and use mental health information when making informed health and wellbeing decisions.
What are the benefits of Mental Health Literacy?
Recognising mental health and wellbeing concerns is not always straightforward. Clinical terminology can also be difficult to understand, creating uncertainty about what someone may be experiencing and how best to respond.
This practical course helps participants build their knowledge, confidence and ability to:
Define mental health literacy and understand why it matters
Explore common mental health terminology
Recognise possible symptoms and signs of concern
Understand how treatment may affect individuals
Use Psychological First Aid principles when responding to mental health and wellbeing concerns
Develop practical wellbeing plans
Mental Health Literacy training can help organisations create a shared understanding of mental health, encourage earlier and more appropriate responses, and give participants practical strategies they can apply in their workplaces and everyday lives.
